Uterine Prolapse consultation

Uterine prolapse occurs when the muscles and tissues supporting a woman's uterus weaken, causing the uterus to descend into or out of the vaginal canal. This condition is often experienced by women who have had multiple vaginal deliveries, are postmenopausal, or have undergone significant pelvic surgeries. Uterine prolapse may vary in severity, with some women experiencing only mild discomfort while others find it significantly impacts their daily life.

Symptoms of uterine prolapse can include a feeling of heaviness or pulling in the pelvis, tissue protruding from the vagina, urinary difficulties such as incontinence or retention, and bowel problems like constipation. Many women also report pain or discomfort during intercourse and lower back pain. Symptoms tend to worsen with prolonged standing or activity and improve when lying down.

Treatment for uterine prolapse depends on the severity of the condition and the patient's individual needs. Non-surgical options include pelvic floor exercises (Kegels), lifestyle changes such as weight management and avoiding heavy lifting, and the use of a vaginal pessary, a device inserted into the vagina to support the uterus. For more advanced cases, surgical options like vaginal or abdominal hysterectomy or uterine suspension might be considered. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial in managing symptoms and improving quality of life.
