Folliculitis consultation

Folliculitis is a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become inflamed, often caused by a bacterial or fungal infection. It can also result from irritation due to shaving, friction from clothing, or blockages from oils or sweat. This condition can appear anywhere on the body where hair grows, but it is most commonly seen on the face, neck, scalp, thighs, and buttocks.

The symptoms of folliculitis include small red or white bumps around hair follicles that may be filled with pus. These bumps can be itchy, tender, and even painful to the touch. In some cases, the skin around the infected hair follicles can become red and swollen. If the infection spreads, it may lead to crusty sores or boil-like lesions.

Treating folliculitis typically involves good skincare practices and, in some cases, medications. Mild cases can often be managed by keeping the affected area clean and avoiding friction or irritation. Over-the-counter antibiotic or antifungal creams can help clear up the infection. For more severe or persistent cases, a doctor might prescribe stronger medications or suggest other treatments. Avoiding tight clothing, changing razors frequently, and using gentle skin care products can also help prevent future outbreaks.
