Acne consultation

Acne is a common skin condition that affects people of all ages, but it is especially prevalent during the teenage years. It occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, leading to the formation of pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. These blemishes can appear on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders.

Symptoms of acne include the presence of various types of pimples. Blackheads appear as small, dark spots on the surface of the skin, while whiteheads are small, white bumps that remain under the surface. Pimples, or zits, are red, inflamed spots that can sometimes be filled with pus. Severe cases might feature cysts or nodules, which are larger, painful lumps beneath the skin. Acne can also cause the skin to feel oily and may lead to scarring if not treated properly.

Treating acne typically involves good skincare habits and, in some cases, medications. Washing the face twice daily with a gentle cleanser helps remove excess oil and dirt. Over-the-counter treatments containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid can help reduce breakouts. For more stubborn cases, a dermatologist might prescribe topical or oral medications. It's important to avoid picking or squeezing pimples to prevent scarring and further infection. With proper care and treatment, most people can manage and eventually clear their acne.
