Wart consultation

A wart is a small, rough growth on the skin that can appear on any part of the body. Warts are caused by a virus known as the human papillomavirus (HPV) and are most commonly found on the hands, feet, and face. They are generally harmless but can be unsightly and sometimes uncomfortable.

Symptoms of warts include a raised bump with a rough surface, often with tiny black dots, which are small, clotted blood vessels. Warts can vary in size and number, sometimes forming clusters. While most warts are painless, those on the feet, known as plantar warts, can become painful when pressure is applied while walking or standing.

Treatment options for warts include over-the-counter solutions such as salicylic acid, which gradually removes the wart. Cryotherapy, which involves freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen, is another common treatment. For persistent warts, a doctor may suggest stronger treatments including prescription medications or minor surgical procedures like laser therapy. While warts often go away on their own, these treatments can help speed up the process and reduce discomfort. It’s important to avoid picking at warts to prevent spreading the virus to other parts of the body or to other people.
