Arthroscopy consultation

Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat joint problems. Instead of making a large incision, a surgeon inserts a small camera, called an arthroscope, into the joint through a tiny cut. This camera displays a clear view of the inside of the joint on a video monitor, allowing the surgeon to thoroughly examine the area and perform necessary treatments using miniature surgical instruments. Arthroscopy is commonly used on knees, shoulders, elbows, wrists, ankles, and hips.

Symptoms that might lead a doctor to recommend arthroscopy include persistent joint pain, swelling, stiffness, and limited range of motion. These symptoms can result from various conditions such as torn cartilage, damaged ligaments, or inflamed joint linings. The procedure helps in accurately diagnosing the issue and can also be used to treat problems like removing or repairing damaged tissues, smoothing rough cartilage, or extracting loose fragments.

Recovery from arthroscopy is generally quicker than traditional open surgery due to the smaller incisions. After the procedure, patients may need rest and physical therapy to regain strength and mobility in the joint. Over-the-counter pain medications and ice packs can help manage post-operative discomfort. Most patients can resume normal activities within a few weeks, although full recovery will depend on the extent of the joint damage and the specific treatment performed.
